Who we are

There are two of us behind Lemma.

We met in 2013 at Beijing Normal University and have worked between China, the United States and Mexico ever since. One of us comes from linguistics and interpreting; the other from engineering and data. We both speak Chinese, Spanish and English, and for each of us only one of the three is a native language — the other two we learned as adults. Lemma came out of that.

Alonso Coronado陆子龙

Co-founder · Interpreter and consultant

A professional Chinese–Spanish–English interpreter with nearly a decade of practice — from the Mexican Embassy in China to negotiation rooms, audits, training sessions and press conferences. He founded and ran Shaoyao Consulting. He is currently pursuing a master's in International Relations at UNAM, researching Chinese firms in Mexico's power sector. He studied at Beijing Normal University (北京师范大学) and edits Shaoyao Report.

Bill Edwards

Co-founder · Software engineer and polyglot

A senior software engineer. He has built large-scale data and AI systems: content moderation powered by frontier language models, payments infrastructure at PayPal/Venmo, and clinical data ingestion at Aledade. He co-founded a web development agency and ran the China and APAC markets at Sift Media, where he opened the Shanghai office. He studied at Beijing Normal University (北京师范大学) and speaks Chinese, Spanish and English.
